Postdoctoral Associate Positions in Immunology and Vaccine Research
Fikri Y. Avci, PhD
Associate Professor of Biochemistry
Emory Vaccine Center, Emory Center for AIDS Research
Emory University School of Medicine
Multiple postdoctoral associate positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Fikri Avci for NIH-supported projects.
Avci Lab is an interdisciplinary research group with an objective to explore the treatment of and protection from infectious diseases and cancer by understanding key molecular and cellular interactions between the components of the immune system and carbohydrate antigens associated with pathogens, symbionts, or tumorigenic tissues. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn and apply immunological and biochemical tools to study key mechanisms by which carbohydrate antigens induce and regulate immune responses. We engineer and develop knowledge-based, newgeneration vaccines or therapeutics based on the mechanisms discovered and test their protection by in vivo disease models. Specific projects include the use of humanized mouse models and translational studies involving human subjects.
While prior experience in working with mice and a broad understanding of Immunology is much welcome, our priority is in identifying highly motivated and productive scientists or engineers from diverse research backgrounds, who want to learn and contribute to our exciting research projects. Competitive salary and benefits are available and will be commensurate with experience.
Emory University offers a highly collaborative, top-notch training and research environment in biomedical sciences. The Department of Biochemistry is a leading research division at Emory University School of Medicine. Emory Vaccine Center is one of the largest academic vaccine centers in the world. Expertise at the Emory Vaccine Center spans the disciplines of basic immunology, infectious diseases, biodefense pathogens, and cancer immunology.
Interested candidates should email their Curriculum vitae, a short letter of interest outlining experience and research goals, and the names and contact information of three references to: favci@emory.edu
